Ring of Bookan
The Ring of Bookan is situated less than 2km NW of the Ring of Brodgar on the top of a small hill next the farm of Bockan. It consists of a central area about 44x38m surrounded by a rock-cut ditch which is up to 13.5m wide and at least 2m deep. The cetral area has a mound with several exposed stones which may be a robbed-out chambered cairn. What may be the remains of the entrance passage faces NE.

There are panoramic views over the Lochs of Stenness and Harray, towards Maeshowe, the Standing Stones and Brodgar, as towards the north. The site is clearly related to the other Neolithic monuments in the area and observations are planned for this season to see of any correlations can be found. Initial conclusions are that this may be the summer solstice equivalent of Maeshowe.
